TO MAUI

Bringing Aloha

Eugene’s Support After the Lahaina Wildfires

Last year when the Lahaina wildfires devastated Maui, the news sent shockwaves through the Eugene community.

Our connection to the Hawaiian Islands runs deep, and the Oregon Aloha Festival is a celebration of that bond.

In the wake of this tragedy, Eugene answered the call to help, turning the annual celebration into a mission of compassion and action.

Oregon Aloha Festival:
From Celebration to Support

The 2nd Annual Oregon Aloha Festival became the heart of our community’s effort to provide aid to those affected by the wildfires.

Through the “Tons of Aloha” food drive, volunteers, festival goers, and local businesses rallied together to collect essential supplies for Maui.

What began as a cultural festival transformed into a powerful demonstration of the Aloha spirit, bringing hope and help to those in need.

Overcoming Challenges with Community Support

Though the outpouring of donations was overwhelming, logistical challenges arose. Due to the timing issues, the transportation of supplies to Maui was delayed, creating a need for temporary storage.

Fortunately, the Eugene community came together once again. The Marine Corps – Engineer Service Co. Combat Logistics BN 23, Organically Grown Company, and Café Yumm generously donated warehouse storage space for the donations, saving us thousands of dollars over an eight-month period.

Their contributions ensured that the supplies were safely stored until they could be shipped to Maui, keeping the momentum of the drive alive.

A Special Delivery to Maui

In April 2024, the supplies were finally delivered to Maui, where we had the honor of meeting with representatives from the Maui Food Bank and Kelawea Mauka Community HUB.

These organizations have been at the forefront of distributing aid and supporting the islands recovery.

The meet and greet was a powerful reminder of the impact the Eugene community had in supporting Maui’s recovery, and it strengthened our commitment to continue our partnership.

A Long-Term Commitment to Support

Our efforts didn’t end with that delivery. The partnership between the Oregon Aloha Festival, the Maui Food Bank, and Kelawea Mauka Community HUB continues today, with a focus on providing sustained support for rebuilding efforts in Maui.

The spirit of Aloha that inspired the Tons of Aloha drive, lives on through ongoing fundraising and resource-sharing efforts.
